Last night, my apartment mate lent me Knightriders, a George Romero movie I remembered fondly from its early 80s screenings on HBO and the like. Have any of you out there seen this? It’s a movie about an SCA-style troupe that re-enacts medieval battles while mounted on motorcycles; it manages to push an astounding number of my geek buttons along the way. The SCA; Romero (although it's nowhere near as gory as his zombie movies; Stephen King has a cameo as a spectator, though); Renn Faires; Arthurian myths- on top of everything else, Pippin is almost certainly the first positive (if occasionally bitchy) gay character I ever saw in a movie. The pace drags in places, but it’s a surprisingly effective and affecting film (Ed Harris is extremely moving as Billy, the leader of the troupe who seems to be taking it all too seriously; Tom Savini, as Morgan, damn near steals the movie out from under him). If you share any of the geek interests I mentioned- or even if you’re simply a motorcycle fan- this is well worth watching.

Awhile back, there was discussion of multimedia Harry Potter fandom work; accordingly, I link to this post, (which includes some animated artwork) by [livejournal.com profile] stealingsims. It’s an adaptation of Stealing Harry, by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, an AU in which Remus and Sirius have started a bookstore together on Privet Drive (Lucius wound up in Azkaban, instead of Sirius); they wind up taking eight-year-old Harry from the Dursleys, and raising him themselves. (And thanks again for the rec, [livejournal.com profile] leopard_lady!) This entry focuses on Chapter Six, in which the young Harry winds up in Diagon Alley, and finds a most unlikely rescuer. The Sirius and Snape here are both good, although I don’t think Remus would favor such short sleeves (especially given his scars); too, Harry and Ron are both supposed to be roughly eight, and Ginny commeasurately younger. These are nitpicks, however; it’s quite a delightful entry.
